Being hospitalized is almost always a challenging, unhappy experience. Patient rooms are often, by default, cold and sterile, making being away from home even harder. In our community, several local flower farmers do their best to elevate patients’ spirits by providing them with bouquets of fresh flowers to add some warmth to their rooms. However, because children who are immunocompromised are not able to have fresh flowers in their rooms at UVA' Children’s Hospital, they miss out on the cheerful bouquets. At the end of May, a group of truly wonderful volunteers joined us to make sure that immunocompromised, hospitalized children are also able to receive flowers.

Volunteers of all ages spent a joyful afternoon putting together the flower kits that were generously donated to us by Lia Griffith. We were joined by pairs of friends, individuals, and families who dedicated their Saturday afternoon to craft with us. The finished bouquets were absolutely gorgeous and we know they’ll make hospitalized families happy. Thank you to everyone involved!

A heartfelt thank you to MarieBette and our local Wegmans for donating delicious treats for our volunteers. The pastries, fruit, and coffee were well enjoyed!
